Car Stereos - Here's the Gist

When shopping for car stereos, there are a few things you must pay close attention to. Does your vehicle allow for a Single Din or Double Din Stereo?

Single Din Stereo refers to stereos that are two inches tall (and seven inches wide). The Double Din Stereo refers to stereos that are four inches tall (and seven inches wide).  Once you figure out what stereo your vehicle fits, the next is to decide if you'd like a Cd Receiver, DVD Receiver, Navigation Receiver, Digital Multimedia Receiver or a Digital Media Receiver

CD Receivers:

These receivers generally are the most basic stereo. It play's CDs, and some have auxiliary inputs, and usb inputs to allow you to play music stored or streamed from your smartphone. Most have bluetooth capability, but they do not have touchscreens.

Digital Media Receivers:

These receivers are designed for people that normally listen to music through their smartphone, or a music storage device. These do all the stuff other stereos do, but they do not have a disc player built in. Because these stereos do not have a disc player they are generally made to have shorter bodies and can fit tighter spaces.

DVD Receivers:

These receivers have a video monitor, which is almost always a touchscreen. Touchsceen control of yor stereo makes it much easier to make adjustments and customize settings. These play Cd's as well as DVD's. They are usually double Din in size, but there are a few made that are single din that have a flip out monitor. These stereos usually have more features and often include the capability of having Apple Carplay or Android Auto for smartphone integration.

Navigation Receivers:

These stereos feature all the same things a DVD Receiver has but with Built in GPS Guidance, with a large touchscreen that will display turn by turn road guidance. Most play DVD's and CD's too.

Digital Multimedia Receivers:

These stereos are a little different than the plain Digital Media Receivers that we mentioned above in the fact that they offer touchscreen displays and will play videos.
